Unusual operation on the Motlawa River involving the REM-220 floating crane

On Thursday, 13 April, a REM-220 floating crane belonging to Gdanska Stocznia Remontowa SA entered the Motlawa River in Gdansk to install temporary ticket offices for Gdanska Shipping.

From Friday, 14 April, Żegluga Gdańska Sp. z o.o.’s services from Targ Rybny to Westerplatte will begin.

The REM-220 floating crane belonging to the Remontowa Shiprepair Yard S.A.  was used for these operations, due to difficult access from the land side. The 200-tonne unit is equipped with a main hook: 2 x 100 t and an auxiliary with a lift of 40 t reaches a maximum speed of 6 knots. The unit transshipped a modular checkout from a Gdansk Shipping vessel to the quay.

On behalf of Żegluga Gdańska, the tug Halny 1 provided towing and navigational assistance on the narrow Motława waterway.

Długie Pobrzeże (Long Embankment) is one of the most representative places in Gdańsk. At the beginning of the year, modernisation works started, the aim of which is primarily to improve safety and aesthetics and to restore its historical value. The expected completion time is the first quarter of 2024.
