The construction of the PGE Baltica base in Ustka has entered its next phase
Work on the construction of the PGE Baltica operational and service base in Ustka is proceeding according to schedule. The most difficult and time-consuming preparatory activities are coming to an end, and the first elements of the future port facilities are becoming increasingly visible next to the quay undergoing reconstruction. The investment for the PGE Group is being carried out by Korporacja Budowlana DORACO.
With each passing week, it is becoming increasingly clear how modern infrastructure for the offshore wind industry is taking shape on the site of the former Korab fish processing plant. The Ustka base will be the first facility of its kind in the PGE Group. Operating continuously and supervising the efficient operation of turbines in the Baltic Sea, it will be the heart of the entire offshore wind farm system. The first offshore power plant to be operated from Ustka will be Baltica 2, a joint project of PGE and Ørsted. The modern port facilities are scheduled to be commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2026.
“The operation of the operational and service base in Ustka offers the prospect of transforming this port into a thriving, modern centre focused on support services for offshore wind energy. And local businesses, not only from Ustka, but also from the entire Pomerania region, can only benefit from this by offering the services necessary for the daily operation of the base,‘ emphasises Bartosz Fedurek, President of the Management Board of PGE Baltica. ’Our Ustka project is a very good example of the involvement of Polish industry and Polish companies. From the very beginning, this investment has been entrusted exclusively to Polish entities.
At the construction site in the port of Ustka, the general contractor has completed the demolition of the old quay. The first foundation elements of the new structure have already appeared in place of the worn-out infrastructure. Korporacja Budowlana DORACO continues earthworks and further technological work within the quay under construction.
‘We are pleased to be implementing this strategic investment for the entire coast in Ustka. We are delighted that at every stage of the project we can cooperate with local companies and use local services, as this means real support for the local economy,’ says Radosław Jarosiewicz, Vice-President of the Management Board of Korporacja Budowlana DORACO. ‘Today, we are using our knowledge and experience to ensure that Ustka will soon become one of the key locations on the map of the Polish offshore sector on the Baltic Sea.’
On land, the geotechnical works, consisting of strengthening the ground, including the construction of foundation piles, are coming to an end. A tower crane has appeared on the construction site to support further activities. Foundation work is underway – concrete foundations are being poured and reinforcement is being laid. New deliveries of steel are regularly arriving at the investment site. In September, the first structural concrete is planned to be poured for the new buildings – first for the warehouse section, then for the social and office section.
Work is also underway on the sanitary and storm water drainage systems. Work on electrical installations and power supply systems will begin soon. Specialised work on the construction of the quay using micropiles is also planned. At the same time, intensive design work is being carried out to ensure a smooth transition to the next stages of construction.
The operational and service base is being built on an area of over 2.3 ha. It will consist of an administrative and social building, a warehouse building, a manoeuvring yard and a quay where special high-speed service vessels (CTVs – crew transfer vessels) will moor to transport crews and spare parts to the wind farms in the Baltic Sea.
In addition to its future operational and service function, the Ustka base will serve as a support facility during the construction of the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm. Teams of workers supporting the construction process will depart from Ustka.
