Future Jantar Unity Embarks on Second Round of Sea Trials

On Wednesday morning, November 26, the future Jantar Unity – the first Ro-Pax ferry (NB101) being constructed by Remontowa Shiprepair Yard , part of the Remontowa Holding capital group, for a Polish shipowner – departed for its second round of sea trials. According to unofficial information, this phase of testing is expected to last several days.

The Ro-Pax ferries being built in Gdańsk (with NB102 currently in an advanced stage of construction) represent some of the most modern vessels of their type in the Baltic Sea. They are powered by four liquefied natural gas (LNG) engines with battery assistance in a hybrid configuration. Instead of conventional propellers, each ferry will be equipped with two azimuth thrusters at the stern and two bow thrusters, which will significantly improve maneuverability in ports.

Each ferry will measure 195.6 meters in length and 32.2 meters in width. The cargo line length extends to 4,100 meters, while maximum speed will reach 19 knots. The ferries will accommodate 400 passengers, with a crew complement of 50 personnel.

According to initial plans, two ferries were to operate under the Unity Line brand, a subsidiary of PŻM (Polish Baltic Shipping Company), with one ferry operating under the Polish Baltic Shipping Company colors. Ultimately, the customer decided that the first ferry, to be named Jantar Unity, will be delivered from the shipyard in POLSCA Baltic Ferries livery.

The vessels represent a significant advancement in environmentally friendly maritime transport technology, combining LNG propulsion with hybrid battery systems to reduce emissions while maintaining operational efficiency on Baltic routes.
