Steel cutting for the first Polish Navy SIGINT new ship

The new SIGINT ship Artemis, delivered by Saab to the Swedish Navy.

On Thursday, 27 April 2023 at 12.00, the Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. shipyard, part of REMONTOWA HOLDING, will hold the steel-cutting ceremony, thus starting the production of the first SIGINT (signal intelligence) ship for the Polish Navy.

The newbuilding was commissioned to the Polish shipyard by SAAB Kockums AB, which had signed a contract with the Armament Agency for the design, construction, delivery and logistical support of two radio-electronic reconnaissance ships under the programme codenamed ‘Delfin’ for the Polish Navy.

According to the contract, Saab Kockums AB has full responsibility for the delivery of the ships, including the integration of advanced whole mission and combat systems.

Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. is responsible for the construction of operational-ready ships and the execution of all necessary tests, including the full range of HAT (harbour tests) and SAT (sea trials).

The radio-electronic reconnaissance ships, code-named ‘Dolphin’, are designed for intelligence gathering in the full range of the Navy’s tasks. They will replace the radio-electronic reconnaissance units of project 863 currently operated by the Navy: the ORP Navigator and ORP Hydrograf built in 1975 and 1976 respectively at the Bohaterów Westerplatte Northern Shipyard in Gdańsk, i.e. the current Remontowa Shipbuilding.
