PGE launches Poland’s first MEW investment process management course

“Offshore wind energy: management, preparation and execution of investments” – is a new postgraduate course developed jointly by PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna and Warsaw’s Lazarski University, which will start in October 2022. It will be the first course in Poland preparing experts to manage investment processes in offshore wind energy.

– The offshore industry in Poland needs highly qualified specialists. The best way to effectively build the domestic offshore wind energy market is to educate future specialists at Polish universities – says Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna. – Therefore, based on the teaching staff of Łazarski University, as well as experts in management, regulation, risk, finance, and engineers and managers from both PGE and the market, we will educate experts to manage investment processes in offshore wind energy – adds Wojciech Dąbrowski.

– Lazarski University’s agreement with PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna is part of our strategy to cooperate with the social and economic environment, especially with business, in order to support the development of modern technologies. The current international situation shows how important it is to develop alternative energy sources, including offshore wind energy. Our University has extensive experience in educating staff for such projects in management, finance and investment processes. The education will be provided by practitioners with many years of experience, widely acknowledged as outstanding professionals in their fields of activity. I am very happy that we will be able to implement this project together with PGE,” says Prof. Maciej Rogalski, rector of Łazarski University.

PGE is a leader of change in the Polish energy sector. In its new strategy for the PGE Group, the company has presented a plan for the Group’s transformation, a roadmap for the decarbonization of generation and announced a goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. The PGE Group’s Offshore Programme assumes the construction of two offshore wind farms with a total capacity of up to 2.5 GW by 2030. By 2040, the capacity of the Group’s offshore wind farms will reach 6.5 GW, which will make the PGE Group the leader of the future offshore wind energy sector in Poland.

Already now we are looking for experts in many areas related to the offshore wind sector, including design, construction, operation and maintenance of offshore wind farms. In the process of investment preparation, managers are also needed, who will be able to efficiently manage the investment and later supervise proper operation of offshore wind farms. Preparing strategies for offshore projects, creating and handling financial instruments for emerging investments, risk management or crisis management – these are just a few examples of career opportunities in Poland’s emerging offshore wind energy industry. That is why Lazarski University has joined forces with PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna to create a postgraduate program called “Offshore wind energy: management, preparation and execution of investments”, based on the teaching staff of a renowned university in Poland and experts-practitioners with experience in the offshore industry.

– The mission of Lazarski University’s Center for Postgraduate Studies is to support career development based on specialized knowledge, professional skills and social competence. We have one of the richest and most diverse offers in the market of educational services in the field of postgraduate education, which we build and continue to develop together with our institutional partners. For several years, we have been successfully implementing the MBA Energetyka programme, in which we focus on developing the competencies of managers responsible for investment projects in the energy sector. Cooperation with PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna is the highest confirmation of our expertise in this area. Joining forces with such an important strategic partner will also allow us to develop a unique offer on the post-graduate education market,” says Dr. Małgorzata Gałązka-Sobotka, dean of the Center for Postgraduate Education at Lazarski University.
