Nearly 300-metre-long cruise liner Rotterdam will call at the Port of Gdansk

The Port of Gdansk took part in the 40th edition of Seatrade Cruise Global, the largest and most important event in the cruise shipping calendar, which took place from 7-10 April in Miami. One of the outcomes of the meetings and talks is the confirmation of the call of the cruise ship Rotterdam – a vessel belonging to the renowned Holland America Line – to Gdansk in 2026.

The port of Gdansk advertised within the joint stand of the Cruise Europe organisation, cooperating with ports from Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, the Faroe Islands and Ireland.

The presence in such a prestigious group is not only an opportunity to exchange experience, but also to present the assets of the Pomeranian region against the background of European competition – informed representatives of the Port of Gdansk.

– Participation in the fair Seatrade Cruise Global is an excellent promotion of the Port of Gdansk, the city of Gdansk and the whole Pomerania. Our offer, addressed to shipowners of passenger ships, will begin to bear fruit in the next 2-3 years, in the form of further calls of cruise ships to the Port of Gdansk. We need this time to prepare the entire passenger logistics related to the calls and passenger service,’ emphasises Dorota Pyć, CEO of the Port of Gdansk.

One of the results of the meetings and talks in Miami is the confirmation of the call in 2026 of the cruise ship Rotterdam – a vessel belonging to the renowned Holland America Line. It will be the largest passenger ship ever to call at the Port of Gdansk. At 299 metres long, the colossus will accommodate more than 3,000 passengers on board.

During the fair, the Port of Gdansk, together with the Baltic Gateway Group – one of the leading tour operators in Northern Europe – presented a comprehensive tourist offer covering the attractions of Gdansk and the entire region. An increase in the number of cruises and tourists arriving by sea can contribute significantly to the economic development of Pomerania.

The inauguration of this year’s cruise ship season in the Port of Gdansk will take place on Thursday, 17 April, when the first cruise ship this year – Le Champlain – will arrive in Gdansk. It is a modern vessel belonging to the French cruise line Ponant, which specialises in luxury, boutique expedition cruises. It is small (131m long, about 18m wide), manoeuvrable and environmentally friendly, allowing it to call at ports and destinations inaccessible to larger vessels. The ship was built in 2018 and can take a maximum of 184 passengers on board.

The cruise ship will call at the Port of Gdansk 60 times this season.
