Launch of Future ORP Czajka This Thursday

ORP Czajka

On Thursday, December 11, at the Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. shipyard, part of the Remontowa Holding S.A. Capital Group, a christening and launching ceremony will take place for the sixth in the series of Kormoran II-class minehunters – the future ORP Czajka (606).

Mrs. Katarzyna Sikora, wife of the commander of the 8th Coastal Defense Flotilla, will become the ship’s godmother. Following military ceremony tradition, after symbolically breaking a champagne bottle against the hull, she will name the vessel Czajka.

This will be the sixth vessel of the Kormoran II class, built in Gdańsk by a Consortium whose core consists of: Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. (leader), the Research and Development Centre for Marine Technology S.A. from Gdynia, and PGZ Naval Shipyard Ltd.

Ships of this series are among the world’s most modern vessels in mine warfare. Equipped with advanced hydrographic, sonar, and threat neutralization systems, they enable not only searching, identifying, classifying, and destroying sea mines, but also countering underwater sabotage, patrolling waterways, and protecting critical infrastructure.

ORP Czajka (606) will enter service in 2027, strengthening the Naval Forces’ capabilities and joining the 12th Minesweeper Division of the 8th Coastal Defense Flotilla in Świnoujście.

Since 2017, Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. has built nine vessels for the navy, including a series of six auxiliary vessels under the Tugboat program and three Kormoran II-class minehunters: ORP Kormoran, ORP Albatros, and ORP Mewa.

Currently, the shipyard is building three more mine countermeasure vessels in cooperation with consortium partners: ORP Rybitwa (launched in March this year), ORP Jaskółka (launched in June this year), and the future ORP Czajka.

Remontova Shipbuilding S.A. is also independently building two electronic reconnaissance vessels under the Delfin program, commissioned by Swedish concern Saab, which ordered them on behalf of the Armament Agency.
