CEVA Logistics, increasingly providing comprehensive project cargo services in the region, has recently completed a major oversize transport. On behalf of Europe’s leading onshore drilling company Exalo Drilling (PGNiG Group), CEVA delivered a drilling rig structure from the Port of Gdansk to the African island of Songo Songo off the coast of Tanzania.

The enormous scale and complexity of the rig’s construction

CEVA Logistics managed the entire process of delivering the oil rig from the manufacturers to the customer in Tanzania, using ocean freight. The operator chartered a vessel to carry 154 oil rig components, including drilling rigs and structural parts. The total weight of the entire cargo was over 2,000 tonnes and the volume was 9,000 cubic metres.

The equipment was transported from various production facilities in Poland, Croatia and the Netherlands to the port of Gdansk. The entire consolidation process took several weeks and required precise planning and coordination at every stage of transport. At the Gdansk port, the rig’s structural elements were loaded on board a ship using specialised lifting equipment and set sail for Tanzania.
