The sailing ship ‘Dar Młodzieży’ sets sail today on a six-month voyage

Dar Młodzieży

On Monday, 29 May, the Dar Młodzieży will embark on an almost six-month voyage, during which it will cover some 12,500 nautical miles.

The sailing school ship of the Gdynia Maritime University will call at ports in Bremerhaven, Rouen, Fredrikstad, Arendal, La Coruna, Lisbona, Cadiz and Cape Verde, among others. She will take part in The Tall Ships Races regatta and cross the Equator, thus commemorating the 100th anniversary of the crossing of the longest parallel by the first ship under the Polish flag – the sailing ship Lwów, a school ship of the Maritime University in Gdynia in 1921-1930.

The crew of the white frigate, under the command of Dar Młodzieży’s commander Capt. sailing master Rafał Szymański, consists of a permanent crew and apprentices who are undergoing maritime training. Among them are students from the Maritime University of Gdynia, students from the West Pomeranian Centre for Maritime and Polytechnical Education in Szczecin and, for the first time, Ukrainian students from the Oddesa Maritime Academy.

The Dar Młodzieży will depart from the Pomeranian quay in Gdynia at 11:00 am on Monday.

The Dar Młodzieży will return to Gdynia on 11 November 2023.
