The European Economic Congress has begun
The three-day 17th European Economic Congress (EEC) began on Wednesday morning in Katowice. The slogan of this year’s event is ‘Together for a safe future/ United for a safe future’. The theme is security and transformation.
Participants in the first plenary session entitled. ‘Security and the economy’ included Minister of Industry Marzena Czarnecka, former Prime Minister and former President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek, Presidents of Orlen and PGE, and heads of private business.
The main thematic streams of the ECG 2025 are broadly defined security, competitiveness of the European economy, green transformation, geopolitics and its impact on business, investment and development, as well as digitalisation and new technologies – in the context of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The initiator and organiser of the Congress, the President of the PTWP Group Wojciech Kuśpik, emphasises that the obtained patronage of the Polish Presidency gives the ECE an additional rank and context, and the range of topics is connected, among others, with the extension of the congress space. As they do every year, the organisers have invited participants to Katowice’s International Congress Centre, but also to the connected Spodek, where the inauguration of the event, some sessions, galas and concerts are scheduled.
The inauguration of the Katowice Congress is expected to resound with business demands: deregulation and more free market, affordable energy prices and priorities for investment, innovation, technology.
The inaugural session is also to address the mobilisation of industry in Europe, the use of European technologies, European defence and military capabilities. Europe’s responses to the new global situation and trade barriers are to be considered, as well as investment financing.
The inauguration of the ECE is to be followed, among other things, by the opening of a conference of the Ministry of Industry under the Polish Presidency. The opening session is to be devoted to Europe’s energy security, with further panels on security and development, fair transition and the future of mining and industrial regions, among others. A presentation of the White Paper on Transformation is to be part of the conference.
Representatives of the Polish government at the ECE are expected to include the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digitalisation Krzysztof Gawkowski, Minister of State Assets Jakub Jaworowski, Minister of Industry Marzena Czarnecka, Minister of Science and Higher Education Marcin Kulasek, Minister of European Affairs Adam Szłapka, as well as numerous deputy ministers.
Congress sessions will be attended by representatives of the management boards of companies and institutions. One axis of the programme will be a series of meetings aimed at strengthening Poland’s economic and trade relations with other countries. Particularly represented in Katowice are to be: Germany, Switzerland, Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates.
For the second time, the Congress will feature EEC Talks – talks with economists, politicians, diplomats, as well as representatives of business, culture and social life, held on an open stage. During the 17th EEC, the next editions of competitions will also be decided: EEC Startup Challenge, Top Municipal Investments, Investor Without Borders or Manager of the Year 2024 of the Silesian Voivodeship.
