Orlen: construction of terminal on the Martwa Wisła River already halfway advanced
The construction of the transshipment terminal on the Martwa Wisła River is already 50 per cent advanced and proceeding according to plan, Orlen reported on Tuesday. The investment will significantly strengthen the logistics capabilities of the Gdansk refinery and will enable the transshipment of around 2 million tonnes of fuel products per year.
Informing about the progress of works on the construction of the transshipment terminal on the Martwa Wisła River, Orlen recalled that the investment started in January 2023, its completion is planned for 2025 and the value of the contract is approximately PLN 500 million.
“Work on the construction of the handling terminal on the Martwa Wisła River is progressing according to plan and is already 50 per cent advanced.” – reported Orlen on Tuesday. As it assessed, “the investment will significantly strengthen the logistics capabilities of the Gdansk refinery and will ultimately enable the handling of around 2 million tonnes of fuel products per year”. The company pointed out that in parallel, the construction of a hydrocracking oil unit is underway at the Gdansk refinery, which will increase oil processing capacity and allow the introduction of new categories of advanced oil products.
“As announced, we are investing in our Gdansk assets to ensure their long-term profitability and value growth in a dynamically changing business environment. The construction of the terminal on the Martwa Wisła River, will increase the ability to supply bio-components for fuel production in line with EU regulations,” – Orlen CEO Daniel Obajtek said, quoted in the company’s announcement.
As he stressed, the ongoing project will simultaneously enable the Gdansk refinery to export second-generation base oils, the production of which will be possible thanks to the investment in the hydrocracking oil block. “Its launch will open new markets for the Gdansk refinery and significantly improve its competitiveness,” Obajtek assessed.
Work is being carried out in parallel on both the refining section and the terminal itself. Orlen reported that the construction of the transshipment terminal on the Martwa Wisła River, which is the responsibility of Sopot-based NDI Group, “is in the middle of implementation”.
Among other things, the reinforced concrete works related to the superstructure of the quay and the superstructure of the transhipment piers or the installation of the steel structure of the communication piers have recently been completed. Thus, 50% of the investment has already been completed.
