Gdynia Maritime University to collaborate with Dalian Maritime University

Gdynia Maritime University and Dalian Maritime University have entered into a cooperation agreement. A document in this regard was signed in Gdynia on 21 April 2023.

The Chinese university is one of the largest maritime universities in the world, educating more than 25,000 students. Situated on the Yellow Sea, the city of Dalian has a population of around 4 million and is one of the largest ports in the world. The cooperation agreement was signed by the Rectors of the universities, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Capt. Adam Weintrit and Prof. Sun Yuqing.

– The signed agreement with Dalian Maritime University opens up new opportunities for Gdynia Maritime University, just as the cooperation agreement we signed with Shanghai Maritime University 40 years ago opened up the way for our University to cooperate extensively with the Far East for many decades,’ says the Rector of Gdynia Maritime University, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Capt. G. Adam Weintrit.

Cooperation with Dalian Maritime University means a number of benefits for UMG, including student and staff exchanges, joint research projects and scientific activities.

– We have offered the Dalian university participation in a voyage to the Equator and the Rector of Dalian Maritime University, Professor Sun Yuging, has already ensured that at least three Chinese students will sail to the Equator on board our school frigate, the Dar Młodzieży,” emphasises the Rector of UMG.

– The Chinese students are expected to come to the Faculty of Navigation, where classes in English will be launched from the new academic year. In the longer term, we hope to have our students go to Dalian, similarly to the cooperation with Shanghai Maritime University, adds Prof. Dr. Eng. Capt. Adam Weintrit

Dalian University is the 27th foreign university with which Gdynia Maritime University will cooperate. Entering into cooperation with a Chinese university is a confirmation of the assumptions of the Rector of the University of Gdynia for the next two years of the term related to the internationalisation of the University and expansion of the University’s activities in the international environment.
