EUR 5 billion for offshore wind energy from NRP

Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego is now launching a call for applications for loans earmarked for offshore wind energy. This is possible thanks to the fulfilment of one of the so-called NRP (National Recovery Plan) milestones, i.e. the signing of an agreement by the bank and the Ministry of State Assets. The total amount of funds for loans includes almost PLN 5 billion.

The release of funds from the NRP for offshore wind energy loans was announced at a press conference on Tuesday by Deputy Minister of State Assets Jacek Bartminski and Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego vice-president Professor Marta Postuła.

– The project to build offshore wind farms is one of the main NRP projects implemented at the Ministry of State Assets. The largest in terms of value, it is worth exactly EUR 4 billion 785 million, said Deputy Minister Bartmiński.

Support for the offshore sector means the production of green energy, which in the long term will allow Polish entrepreneurs to reduce their operating costs. Minister Bartmiński said that seven projects have been identified (carried out by five consortiums), which may receive loan support for offshore wind energy, of which two consortiums have entities controlled by the State Treasury. At the same time, the Minister pointed out that other entities may also apply for support.

The Vice-President of Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, Professor Marta Postuła, informed that the ‘support instrument for the construction of offshore wind farms’ is typically a loan instrument, and financial assistance will be provided on market terms.

– Around EUR 30 billion of NRP instruments will be mobilised by BGK bank for activities largely related to building sustainable development based on green energy, digitalisation issues and support for housing policy, said President Postuła.

Loan agreements for financing offshore wind farms can be concluded until 31 August 2026, with a maximum repayment period of up to 2053. BGK is a Polish development bank whose mission is to support sustainable socio-economic development of the country.

– This is the third agreement we have managed to sign regarding the use of the NIP. As of today, we start accepting applications, so this is the starting point for our entrepreneurs who have decided to take action related to the construction of offshore wind farms, added Prof. Marta Postuła.

BGK will support projects with a minimum size of 300 MW of installed capacity. Loan agreements to finance offshore wind farms can be concluded until 31 August 2026, with a maximum repayment period until 2053.
