Establishment of a new sea border crossing Nowy Świat at the site of the Vistula Spit crossroads
The establishment of a new maritime border crossing Nowy Świat at the site of the Vistula Spit cross-cut is one of the solutions of the draft regulation of the Council of Ministers, which has been sent for opinion.
The draft includes the establishment of a new Nowy Świat sea border crossing, as well as a change in the status of the Radom-Sadków air border crossing from an additional one to a permanent air border crossing.
The establishment of the Nowy Swiat border crossing is justified, as indicated, by the need to provide a place for border control for vessels on the new waterway for navigation between the Vistula Lagoon and the Baltic Sea.
It was reported that in the initial period of operation it will apply in particular to sports, sailing and fishing vessels. It was added that the purpose of the construction of the cross-cut is, among other things, the development of the port of Elblag, in view of the above, the proposed regulation defines the type of border traffic at this crossing as passenger and cargo.
The justification states that given the location of the crosscut area and the distances from the currently operating border crossings, the establishment of a new New World sea border crossing is justified.
The applicants further argue that the establishment of a permanent air border crossing Radom-Sadków at the Warsaw-Radom airport is justified by the need to ensure the efficient operation of the airport in light of the scale of expected air traffic and to guarantee an adequate level of protection of the state border.
The analysis of the projected network of connections by the State Enterprise “Airports” indicates the legitimacy of the initiative in question. The Airport forecasts that in 2023 there will be about 6,500 air operations and about 260,000 passengers on scheduled and charter flights, with the share of non-Schengen traffic expected to be 55 per cent. The justification indicates that given the expected date of launch of the Radom airport and the scope and type of air traffic to be carried out there, it is justified to transform the Radom-Sadków air border crossing from additional to permanent.
The development of the regulation, it was explained, is related to the application of the Director of the Maritime Office in Gdynia to the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration for the establishment of a new maritime border crossing in Nowy Świat and the application of the President of the Management Board of the State Enterprise “Airports” to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration for the establishment of a permanent air border crossing Radom-Sadków.
